I wrote this for a girl my freshman year of college, 2011-2012.

When you walk past me
I could think of the times we talked

The time we shed our labels and lids
And opened ourselves up like cans of fish
And shared our brittle bones
And found the same creature on the inside

The time we came together
Clutching our hearts like they would break
But pressed them together in embrace
And knew one feeling

The time everything seemed cold
And you couldn't hike the frozen road
So I spread my warmth
And we curled up like toes in winter

I could remember all the times
We laughed and touched and cried and hugged

But they passed me like bulbs of drifting grey
That shocked and spat on me
And left me in dark nights of shame and sorrow
When I cringed and cracked
And wished for life inside your arms
